Cook Escaping the Gallows

With the whole world waiting (not so much with abated breath) for the walking wicket of Alistair Cook to fall in the 2nd innings of the third test match between England and Pakistan, Cook nudged, edged and somehow survived to score a century while the other more celebrated teammates of his collapsed in a heap. This at least buys him a ticket to Australia this winter. 

Indian Bowling Infirmary

The Indian bowlers, especially of the fast (Ahem.. medium) variety have been dropping off like flies. Zaheer Khan had some shoulder injury, Sreesanth, besides showing signs of chronic head trauma, did something to his ankles (not from break dancing I hope) and Ishant, being generally not able to find the words line and length in the dictionary, in addition to other serious stuff. But No Dengue, we are happy to announce.

As any average cricket fan is quite aware of, the performance of the Pakistan team is worse than a cocaine addict. The highs and the lows and the swings between the extremes are very commonplace. One day, they bundle out Australia for 88, chase more than 200 in the 4th innings pretty well and do a quick around, and get all out for 72 against England. Even the weather is more predictable than Pakistan’s cricket team.

Sehwag hammers Sri Lankans

Stuart Broad gets penalized. Sort of.

Stuart “Petulant Baby” Broad has been getting away with a lot his antics on the cricket field. This may be because his father is a match referee or his “boy band member” looks (there is a rumor that match referees love Backstreet Boys). But not this time. He was found guilty of a level II offense when he intentionally threw the ball at a Pakistani batsman, by the trailblazer from Sri Lanka Mr. Ranjan Madugalle. Well, sort of. For the crime he committed, Broad should have at least received a one-match ban but I’m afraid it isn’t so.
